Notes

や pairs with など in the same phrase — や separates the samples, など
closes them off (パンやたまごなど). を and が are optional after it
(くすりなど/くすりなどを); に, で and から are not
(病院びょういんなどに).

  • など leans to writing and careful speech and closes the list from outside (AやBなど); とか is spoken and repeats on every item (AとかBとか), so a notice or a report takes など where a conversation takes とか.

  • といった demands the category noun the items exemplify right after it (いぬねこといった動物どうぶつ) and needs at least two of them; など needs neither — a single noun plus など is a complete phrase.
