Notes
Related patterns
Similar
Same ほしい predicate, same i-adjective conjugation and first-person default — but Nがほしい covets a thing, while V-てほしい asks for someone else's action.
Both conjugate as i-adjectives and mark the desired target with が — たい wants an ACTION and rides a verb stem, ほしい wants a THING and follows a bare noun.
Lookalikes
欲しがる looks like 欲しい+がる and is exactly that — but the case flips (犬が欲しい→犬を欲しがる) and the first-person restriction lifts, so mixing the two case frames is the standard error.
